About French schools in Minneapolis and Minnesota

This page lists every French immersion and French curriculum school in Minneapolis and Minnesota, public and charter — each with its program type, tuition, enrollment and accreditation. It is one metro area of an independent directory covering 239 schools across 34 US states.

Every school here is a dual language program, following the American curriculum with the school day split between French and English. None follows the French national curriculum. All of them are tuition-free. There is no private French school in Minneapolis and Minnesota. Those flagged LabelFrancÉducation carry the French government's label for strong French programs abroad, awarded by the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.

The Minneapolis–Saint Paul metro area is built around two public pathways, one in Saint Paul and one in Edina.

The Saint Paul pathway runs through Saint Paul Public Schools: L’Étoile du Nord French Immersion School (Pre‑K–5, 90% French entry) → Hidden River Middle School → Central Senior High School. DELF exams are offered from early grades; Central offers the IB Diploma and Seal of Biliteracy. Application deadline is around February 20, with 20 Pre‑K seats available per cohort. Native French-speaking teachers throughout.

The Edina pathway covers the Edina School District: Normandale Elementary French Immersion School (K–5) → Valley View Middle School → Edina High School, with AP French and Seal of Biliteracy at the high school level. Notre École in Golden Valley is a public charter for early childhood and elementary grades.

Two complete public K–12 pathways: Saint Paul’s L’Étoile→Hidden River→Central and Edina’s Normandale→Valley View→Edina HS give Twin Cities families more structured French immersion options than any comparably sized US market.

What AEFE homologation, LabelFrancÉducation, the American accreditors and the International Baccalaureate each certify is explained in the guide to accreditations and credentials. For younger children, the Minneapolis daycare directory covers French daycares and preschools. You can also see every French school in Minnesota, or browse the full national directory.

We hope you will find this directory useful, and please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions, comments or additional information on the schools listed here — or a school we are missing.
