This page lists every French immersion and French curriculum school in the Boston area, public and private — each with its program type, tuition, enrollment and accreditation. It is one metro area of an independent directory covering 239 schools across 34 US states.
Dual language programs follow the American curriculum with the school day split between French and English; French curriculum schools follow the French national program and are accredited by the French Ministry of Education. The two private schools, EFB - Ecole Francaise Boston and International School of Boston, charge between $21,000 and $51,000 a year.
Massachusetts has 13 French-language schools, almost all public and concentrated south of Boston. The defining feature of the state’s French immersion landscape is Milton — a single Boston suburb with 6 schools in the same public program, from the elementary schools (Collicot, Cunningham, Glover, Tucker) through Pierce Middle School to Milton High School. A student who enters the Milton French immersion program in Grade 1 can graduate from the same public district 12 years later — no tuition, no transfers.
Holliston, roughly 25 miles west of Boston, runs a second public pathway in the MetroWest region: French immersion starts in kindergarten at Sam Placentino Elementary and continues through Fred Miller Elementary and Robert Adams Middle to Holliston High School. Manthala George Elementary in Brockton represents the state’s reach into higher-diversity South Shore communities.
Boston’s private French education is anchored by two institutions: EFB – École Française de Boston (Watertown), a small Montessori-inflected bilingual school, and International School of Boston (Cambridge), an AEFE-affiliated school widely regarded as one of the most academically respected French schools in the Northeast.
What AEFE homologation, LabelFrancÉducation, the American accreditors and the International Baccalaureate each certify is explained in the guide to accreditations and credentials. For younger children, the Boston daycare directory covers French daycares and preschools. You can also see every French school in Massachusetts, or browse the full national directory.
